PowerShot SD790IS Highlights

Advanced 10-megapixel Digital ELPH with 3x optical zoom and Optical Image Stabilizer The PowerShot SD790 IS Digital ELPH offers impressive core technologies. The 10.0-megapixel CCD gives you extraordinary flexibility in cropping and enlarging: the detail and resolution are so fine that you can take any part of an image and enlarge it with confidence. The 3x optical zoom can more than handle your everyday shooting. Canon’s exclusive Optical Image Stabilizer automatically detects and cancels camera shake, ensuring that your images are crisp and blur-free throughout the zoom range.
Motion Detection Technology automatically detects subject movement and optimizes exposure control to reduce blur Life doesn’t stand still for picture-taking. That’s why Canon included its advanced Motion Detection Technology in the PowerShot SD790 IS Digital ELPH. This sophisticated feature works in the background to instantly evaluate how fast your subject is moving. Then it automatically selects and sets the optimal exposure and ISO settings to keep everything looking sharp and clear. When you need higher ISOs for action-stopping shutter speeds, Motion Detection Technology provides it. But when no movement is detected, it allows lower ISOs for excellent color and detail. So whether you’re shooting a bride walking down the aisle, a ballet recital or even a child’s soccer game, you can relax and shoot with confidence knowing you’ve got the picture you intended.

Large 3.0-inch PureColor LCD II screen for bright, accurate color and wide viewing angle The PowerShot SD790 IS Digital ELPH gives you large 3.0-inch LCD screen for excellent control when framing your shots. Canon’s PureColor LCD II offers more spectacular color, resolution and contrast even when viewed at an angle (compared to PureColor LCD). The screen is highly durable and easy to see in any light with a scratch-resistant, anti-reflective coating. It also features Night Display for easy viewing in low light — a perfect feature for gathering friends and family around to see your images.

Improved Face Detection Technology sets the focus, exposure, flash and white balance automatically Canon’s powerful Face Detection Technology delivers even better results with the new SD790 IS Digital ELPH. The Face Detection Technology continues to recognize faces in a scene, concentrate exposure (daylight or flash) and focus upon them. But the SD790 IS Digital ELPH adds more: Face Detection WB means the camera concentrates upon faces when calculating white balance for the best possible skin tones. Face Select and Track lets the SD790 IS Digital ELPH user highlight one face among several in a scene, and the camera concentrates on that person, even as they move around the scene. Face Detection Technology is a powerful contributing factor in Canon’s new Motion Detection Technology.
And with 19 Shooting Modes including 12 Special Scene Modes, you’re ready for whatever shot comes your way.
Edgy, stylish design combined with a cool new button configuration for great operability It’s all about edge with the PowerShot SD790 IS Digital ELPH. Sculptured angles not only ratchet up this Digital ELPH’s “look at me” quotient, but add an extra degree of control for superior handling. Gleaming cut surfaces emphasize the camera’s slim style. A cutting-edge control dial makes accessing functions and operations easier than ever. Large, flat buttons in an intuitive configuration are uniquely attractive and fun to use.
DIGIC III Image Processor for superior image quality and improved functionality With DIGIC III, your images boast superior quality, the camera operates at top efficiency and battery life is enhanced. What’s more, DIGIC III enables Canon’s Face Detection Technology and Red-eye Correction to give you better, more true-to-life people shots. Simply press the Shutter Button halfway down, and the camera automatically pinpoints the faces in the scene and chooses the ideal focus point. The camera controls exposure settings and flash to keep every face looking bright and natural. Red-eye Correction can be handled in-camera, in two ways. The entirely new Red-eye Correction during shooting uses the Face Detection Technology to recognize and remove red-eye from flash images as they’re taken, before the file is written to the memory card. It’s also possible to correct red-eye during image playback, using simple settings in the SD790 IS Digital ELPH’s menu.
iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the fast DIGIC III Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.
Red-eye Correction provides three options for removing red-eye from subjects in flash pictures.
1) The new Red-eye Correction during shooting actually identifies and corrects red-eye in human subjects as pictures are taken.
2) The SD790 IS Digital ELPH can be set to automatically detect and correct red-eye during image playback.
3) The user can manually locate any red eyes in a scene during image playback on the LCD screen, and command the camera to remove them.
The PowerShot SD790 IS Digital ELPH also features ISO 1600 and High ISO Auto settings that reduce the effects of camera shake and sharpen subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater shooting flexibility.
Print/Share Button for easy direct printing and downloading The PowerShot SD790 IS Digital ELPH’s Print/Share button makes direct printing easier than ever. Simply connect the SD790 IS Digital ELPH to a Canon PIXMA photo printer or SELPHY compact photo printer or any PictBridge compatible photo printer, press the lighted Print/Share button and print! Also use the Print/Share button to transfer images to a computer (Windows and Macintosh).
Print your own ID photos in up to 28 different sizes or use the Movie Print function to output multiple stills from a recorded movie on a single sheet with a Canon SELPHY compact photo printer.

3 Stars A heavy camera with a great LCD screen but a lousy clickwheel
This camera is a lot heavier than all the Sony Point and Shoot cameras i have used until now.
Here is a summary of the positives and negatives
POSITIVES
1. Great 3 inch LCD screen
2. Fast startup
3. Uses SDHC cards so you can use an 8GB or 16GB and never worry about memory full
4. Value Price
5. Compact and lightweight battery charger with worldwide 100 ~220v compatability
NEGATIVES
1. Horrible Rotating Wheel. Many of the functions you can use the click wheel, but for the selections you have to use the rotating wheel, it is a nightmare getting use to this
2.Lag time to shoot is still slow, a common problem with compact point and shoots
3. No touch screen
4. Not slim - Stubby and a wee bit heavy
5. If you don’t like the ubiquitous silver color - no other choice
4 Stars Good pocket camera
This camera does what you’d expect from a small Canon. It a good pocket camera, but won’t replace an SLR if you are serious about photos. Also, the slider that selects camera, video, or scene mode tends to get caught when pulling it out of a pocket and you end up with a lot of 1 second videos while you switch it back to camera.
5 Stars PERFECT LITTLE CAMERA!
I absolutely love my new 790! Takes amazing pictures, and the video recordings are great also! My favorite feature is the Color Accent, you have to try it out. It allows you to take pics in black and white and color accent any color you chose. It is small, and I can take it everywhere. I also purchased the Canon PSC-55 Deluxe Leather Compact Case for it and it’s a perfect fit (if you want a case that will hold extra battery or memory card, this case is not for you). You won’t be disappointed with this camera!
5 Stars Excellent performer
I did a lot of research before purchasing this camera and I am very happy to have made this choice. I bought this camera for as a gift and coupled it with a SanDisk Extreme III 4GB SDHC card. The start-up time is almost instantaneous and the cycle-time between shots is also superb. I really like the circular controller on the back as its tactile nature is very manageable. It focuses super fast and with its face detection feature you can see right away how many people will be in focus. It has a very useful zoom range, while not ultra-wide for close ups it does an excellent job. I don’t have the time to write about all the useful features this camera has, rest assured it’s a very well thought out compact and stands out in the sea of cutesy and trendy models from this and other manufacturers.
5 Stars canon SD790IS
I lost my Canon 750 and replaced it with the SD790IS and I like it even more than the 750 which was a good camera.
Canon EF S 55 250mm f 4 0 5 6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras
March 27, 2009 by DigiBliss · Leave a Comment

Bring your photographic subjects closer with this Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer Telephoto Zoom Lens. It is designed with Canon’s Optical Image Stabilizer technology and is compact and light. This high zoom ratio lens is equivalent to a focal length of 88-400mm in the 35mm format (when used on Canon EOS cameras compatible with EF-S lenses). The image stabilizer effect is equivalent to a shutter speed about 4 stops faster than the same size lens without Image Stabilizer. In other words, if the slowest shutter speed you could formerly hold a 250mm lens steadily was 1/250th of a second, with Canon’s 4-stop stabilization correction, you could hand-hold at shutter speeds as slow as 1/15th of a second. It also uses a UD-glass lens element to correct chromatic aberration for excellent image quality throughout the zoom range.

5 Stars Great quality
I am a amateur photographer who wanted something that would take good pictures of my daughter and her friends when out and about. I love the quality of the pictures I have taken with this lens. It focuses fast and has taken very good pictures even when the kids where running towards me. I am using this lens with a Canon XTi.
5 Stars thank you
I had ordered this item from a different site and never received it. I was really very frustrated because they had charged me 4 something I never got and I really need it but couldn’t wait long. So I ordered from you, guys, but never believed it will come on time 4 the trip that I needed it. But I was so nicely surprised when it came not only on time but 3-4 days before the promised day! Thank you!
2 Stars Cannon EF-S 55-250 F/4-5.6 IS
This lens dose what is says, and is a CANON lens. Takes ok pictures outside, but is too slow to shoot inside without a bright lighting, or flash. But is nothing compared to the replacement 70-200 L lens I purchased as a replacement.
You get what you pay for.
5 Stars Nice lens.
Used this as my primary lens on last vacation and it worked great. I doubt you could find a better tele for the price. IS is also very good. The lens is a bit slow but for under $300, I can live with it.
5 Stars Great Value
It is not the best lens out there, but it is a cheap zoom lens with IS.
It’s the best zoom lens under $300!

5 Stars Review Nikon SB-600 Speeblight Flash
Nikon SB-600 Speedlight Flash has make it fun while being experincing it and well and entertaining experiences with it.
4 Stars Nikon Flash
Enough power for most needs. Put off by bad reviews on the sb 900 so this was my next logical choice considering the price difference. Very satisfied. If Nikon comes out with a better unit this will make an excellent auxillary unit.
5 Stars Jewel!
You spend all this money on a DSLR and lenses and accessories… But you are still using the built-in flash??!?! You will NOT truly see great results without a quality flash. This flash with Nikon’s Creative Lighting System is incredible. It rotates on multiple axis and even has a built-in diffuser. If you are deciding on the SB-400 (don’t unless space is a REAL issue) or the SB-800 (great only for master/remote situations but a little slower than the SB-600) stick with this.
5 Stars Excellent Flash
The Nikon SB-600 improves your flash pictures in dramatic fashion over the built in flash. Anyone who takes a lot of flash pictures should invest in this flash.
5 Stars Unlimited possibilities, professional lighting.
Owning a flash like this does absolute wonders for your images. With the ability to angle the flash in almost any direction in relation to the camera solves any difficult lighting situation you might have. Get two or three more, and and set them up wirelessly to create your own portable studio. Great product!!

5 Stars Light & Strong
I love this camera– I have worked with a lot of Canon cameras–and this one is right up there with the Canon 40d. It is light and easy to shoot with. The only thing that I was suprised with is that it doesn’t have a compact flash drive, which is the first Canon camera I have used to have that. But it hasn’t been an inconvenience, and it works great.
5 Stars Sequel to “Capturing Baby Moments”
J Summer….congratulations on your purchase of the Canon XSi DSLR, it’s a great camera! Since this appears to be your first DSLR, let me offer you one tip on improving focus on your baby’s face. Do NOT use “autofocus” (which is really nine point focus) for your portraits, or any other images for that matter. Instead set the MODE dial to the creative zone (NOT THE BASIC ZONE), using “P” will work well for you until you gain additional skills and confidence. Then press the focus button (see page 61 of your User’s Manual) and move the MAIN dial until the only focus point selected is the center one. Next compose your shot by centering your baby’s face in the center of the viewfinder, press the shutter half way, recompose if you want a different view (rule of thirds helps with composition) and shoot! Presto…your baby’s face is now in sharp focus with all images! And when you’re finally feeling that you’ve mastered the “P” setting, move on to learn shutter, aperature, and manual modes in the creative zone. Now you’re a savvy photographer! Good luck!
One correction: The focus button I reference above (shown on page 61 in the User’s Manual) is actually called the “AF point selection” button. Sorry for the error!
5 Stars Great camera
I am a amateur photographer who wanted something that would take good pictures of my daughter and her friends. I love the quality of the pictures I have taken with this camera. It focuses fast and has taken very good pictures even when the kids where running towards me. I have used 5 different point and shoots (all over $300 and heavily researched) and this is much faster with better quality.
5 Stars Canon XSi/450D
Yet another GREAT Canon product.
If you’re going to use more than the ‘automatic’ settings, (e.g. Av/Tv/bracketing etc.), there’s a large ‘learning curve’, but well worth it!
5 Stars GREAT camera in its price class
We had an analog Canon Rebel SLR before, so while we did a lot of comparison review shopping first, we settled quickly on the Digital Rebel. The XSi version is worth the upgrade price. Nice basic lens. Clear, crisp pics; good automated and manual setting flexibility. Out of the box to beautiful pics uploaded to my PC - about 10 minutes. Can’t argue with that.
