4 Stars Garmin Forerunner 50
I chose this watch so I could caculate the distance I was running without having to premeasure and area and so I knew the pace I was running inorder me to improve.

This a a great watch once are able to decipher the directions. The directions were very basic and were hard to follow. It took me quite awhile to get it set up. But once I did set the watch up it worked great and have enjoyed it thoroughly.

The size is a little big but not too big where it causes discomfort and the larger size makes it easy to read while you are excercising.

5 Stars Works Exactly As I Expected
I wanted to purchase a basic sports watch to measure distance. After looking into different models I found the Forerunner 50. It was within my price range. It took a little time figuring out how to work it and I couldn’t get the foot pod to pair with the unit. I contacted support through email and they replied the next day. I followed the instructions they gave me and ended up replacing the battery. The battery is common and easy to find. Once I did that, it worked great. I have only used it a few times running on the treadmill. The distance between the two is off 0.4 miles. My treadmill is pretty old so the real test will be to run a known distance and calibrate it from there. I do think Garmin should be a little more clear with the owner’s manual though. I think it is well worth the price.

4 Stars Lots of techie functions…set paired with heart monitor and foot pod…
I purchased this item for my boyfriend’s Christmas gift. He has only used it a handful of times over the last couple of months. After having to read and reread the manual a bunch of times, we finally figured out how to access the easier functions (amongst quite a few options). He loves being able to keep tabs on his speed, distance, etc. My only complaints are that the display is not user-friendly (menu titles are not intuitive and toggling through menus is a pain) and the batteries died after only 2 months. My boyfriend is still trying to figure out the more complicated settings but at least the batteries were easy enough to change out (got replacements at a local drug store that carries batteries for medical devices).

3 Stars great unit but has some draw backs
where the units operation is seamless- it truly is.. ie uploading data to the comp, going into training mode and immediately starting up

however, during a run i would like to be able to see my heartrate, pace and distance in one screen ..or perhaps on 2 different…not 3…thats just frustrating to go from screen to screen ..especially when the viewing screens are not side by side

1 Star Please take note!!!
Let me preface this statement that I normally LOVE garmin products. However please be aware this product is NOT up to Garmin’s standards. Here is my BIG issue.

If you want a calorie count from your workout I hope you have your footpod or cadence sensor because guess what? YOU WON’T get one! Most HRMs I have purchased in the past have the built in ability to give you a very general calories burned. This unit DOES NOT by itself have the ability to do that without the footpod or the cadence sensor (for bikes). Most people like to throw their HRM on and head out to the gym, you might lift some weights, do some cardio (eliptical trainer, treadmill, etc) and then when you head home you look to see how many calories you burned. This unit will not provide you that information.

Don’t get burned. Look elsewhere for your HRM needs. If you want an outdoor unit the Forerunner 405 or 305 is great. For indoors Garmin should leave that to Polar.

Plantronics Headset M175C for Mobile and Cordless Phones

March 19, 2009 by DigiBliss · Leave a Comment

The Plantronics lightweight headset is designed to free your hands while you drive or work with a wireless phone. Though the unit’s noise-canceling microphone makes it especially suitable for calls placed over a cell phone, it’s also appropriate for use with traditional office phones.

Recipients of our phone calls reported no annoying disturbances or distortions during conversation, and audio quality on our end was clear as well, if a bit muffled. The headset works best on phones that feature good volume controls, because the microphone adjust switch raises and lowers the volume in a very narrow range.

The M175 also has the nifty feature of converting from a headband to an over-the-ear-style headset. Unfortunately, this also makes for a somewhat flimsy construction. Pieces immediately began falling off the unit as soon as we removed it from its packaging, though snapping the components back in place took little effort.

Overall, the Plantronics M175 headset is a versatile, quality headset for those looking for a hands-free way to work with their mobile or cordless phones. –John Frederick Moore

Pros:

  • Lightweight design
  • Good sound quality

Cons:

  • Headset microphone has narrow volume range

4 Stars good sound quality, but cable is too short
We use this set for our VODAVI phone system. Good sound quality, but cable is too short.

4 Stars Very good headset
I’ve used both the M170 and M175C headsets extensively with both cordless and cell phones. The 170 is the same except for lacking a listening volume control and mic mute switch on a pod in the middle of the cord.

Both headsets are comfortable enough to wear all day (with headband), sound great receiving and good transmitting, and have effective noise-cancelling. The 170 is simpler and does not have the volume/mute pod swinging around on the cord, and the 175 adds the convenience of these functions. Over a period of years, the volume control can get scratchy, so the 170 lasts longer.

The main fault of both headsets is that the mic volume isn’t quite loud enough, even with the mic switch on max. I’m not even sure why there is a mic switch — it NEVER needs to be turned down. When the other person has trouble hearing me, I unplug the headset and use the phone directly, and the volume increases noticably for them. This is usually not a problem unless the other person is in a noisy environment, but I wish the headset mic would be as loud as the phone mic. Perhaps this is a side-effect of the noise-cancelling mic feature and would require an amplifier to overcome. If I could buy a battery-powered supplemental mic amp, I would. Plantronics, are you listening?

I’m about to buy another M170 as my old one has died. These headsets have died for me by rough treatment causing damage to the plug or plug wire, or — on the 175 — the volume control getting scratchy. Overall, this is a very good headset and the best value I know for the money.

5 Stars M175C Headset
This is my 2nd purchase of the Plantronics M175C headset. The sound quality is excellent and it holds up well in my daily use.

5 Stars Best headset for my cordless phone I have ever used.
I have been using a Plantronics headset for 10 years. It is a great headset for hearing who I was talking to without any problems. But it was not good for when I talked. The other person always told me my voice was very faint.

This Plantronics M175C has three settings to amplify my voice and now whoever I talk to can hear my perfectly. There are two other features that are new that I really like too. One is the mute button for when I talk and the other is the volume control for what I hear. The mute allows me to control what the other party can hear, great when I on conference calls and I just want to listen. The other is the volume control in case the other person is talking softly (or has a weak headset). All these features were not on my other/old Plantronics headset; a great improvement to what I have used over the years.

This is a wonderful headset which I recommend to anyone.

5 Stars Great headset; use for work from home.
This is a great unit. I’ve had it about 3 weeks now. I use it with my GE 5.8 GHZ cordless home phone and it works fine. I work from home 2-3 days a week and attend or host conference calls about 2-4 times a day. My coworkers tell me I sound loud and clear. The set is comfortable; lightweight but not flimsy or fragile; with padded ear piece. I especially like the mute switch/volume control on the cord. The cord is long enough to give me plenty of slack with the phone clipped to my waist band and I’m 6′3″ so that’s important. I would highly recommend this unit.
