5 Stars Great GPS
I had an older TomTom that decided not to power up any longer so shopped around. My daughter had a Magellan and I liked hers. Mine actually has more features (voice commands, AAA roadside assist, etc). I absolutely love this unit; much less bulky, larger screen, notifcations of upcoming streets and much more. I saved $100 or more by buying the refurbed unit and it looks and performs like new. Would definitely suggest this unit to friends.
3 Stars Tired GPS?
I love it as a tool but blanks out after driving for more than half an hour. It stops and asks “say a command”… then we need to reboot it. If you drive alone, this could be dangerous…
4 Stars Works for me!
We purchased the 4250 last year from Amazon after reading all the reviews and mainly due to being AAA members, otherwise would probably have bought the Garmin. Was a little worried about all the comments regarding poor customer service from Magellan. I must let customers know that my issue was handled fast and very much to our satisfaction. Somewhere after the last firmware upgrade, a line appeared running across my entire screen on the gps unit. When I contacted customer support thru email, I had a response immediately w/ some troubleshooting tips. When none of those cleared the issue, they asked for unit info, and promptly issued a RA ticket. I sent in the unit last Friday, and 1 week later, this Friday I received a replacement unit. I’d say that’s pretty fast service and certainly corrected our issue. We’re happy w/ this gps for our needs.
1 Star Magellans Customer Service - Online Purchase
While the Magellan maestro 4250 works as expected. The Customer Service Department and their online ordering system is unfair and not very customer friendly. I bought this unit understanding that I could add maps of mexico. I went to the magellans website to order the maps of mexico option. The website asks for the unit information that you own and then recomends TOPO Mexico SD card for the Maestro 4250 at $79.99 + shipping. I ordered the SD card and received it within two days.
When i inserted the SD card into the unit nothing happened, i could not access information or load the maps of Mexico. I called the technical support and was promptly explained that the Topo Mexico SD card is not compatible with the Maestro 4250 and was asked to contact customer service.
They refused to allow me to returned the SD card because they have a no refund policy on softwear. they stated that it must be returned unopened. The unit comes packaged in a small vinyl case with no seals on it. You could never tell that it was opened. Further more it is a product that their website recomended and it is not compatible with the unit it was purchase for. I asked to speak with someone else and I was told there was no one else that I could speak to that he is the final decision maker for magellan and was insgtructed to go to the website and file my complaint online and that it would be rerouted back to them and the decision was no refunds.
While Magellan may make a decent GPS unit. I would never buy another magellan prodect just based on how they handle their customer complaints and the fact that they recomend products that do not work with the unit. If you have a no refund policy on softwear then your website should match products that actually would work with the unbit you are buying it for.
I DO NOT RECOMEND MAGELLAN OR MAGELLAN PRODUCTS DUE TO POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND UNFAIR BUSINESS PRACTICES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4 Stars Magellan Maestro 4250
This GPS is great. The only problem with it is the volume. Should be able to increase it more.
I was very unhappy with Amazon however. The GPS was listed as “New” but was really refurbished. When I questioned this, I was told effectively “too bad, that wasn’t what we meant.” I strongly feel this was false advertising and have suggested to two of my friends that they buy it from another source. This is also my last purchase from Amazon.
